MONITORING REQUIREMENTS NOT MET FOR COYOTE VALLEY SPORTING CLAYS
Our water system failed to monitor as required for drinking water standards during May 2026 and, therefore, was in violation of the regulations. Even though this failure was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what you should do, what happened, and what we did to correct this situation.
We are required to monitor your drinking water for specific contaminants on a regular basis. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. During May 2026 we failed to collect a complete repeat sample set within 24 hours of being notified of the positive result for routine sample collected on May 26, 2026, and failure to collect at least one ground water source sample from Well 01 within 24 hours of being notified of the positive result for routine sample collected on May 26, 2026 for Coliform and E.Coli and therefore, cannot be sure of the quality of our drinking water during that time.
What should I do?
- There is nothing you need to do at this time.
- The table below lists the contaminant(s) we did not properly test for during the month of May, how many samples we are required to take and how often, how many samples we took, when samples should have been taken, and the date on which follow-up samples were (or will be) taken.
| Contaminant | Required Sampling Frequency | Number of Samples Taken | When All Samples Should Have Been Taken | When Samples Were or Will Be Taken |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coliform | Quarterly | 1 | Within 24 hours of being notified a positive result | 5/28/26 and 6/05/26 |
- If you have health issues concerning the consumption of this water, you may wish to consult your doctor.
What happened? What is being done?
On May 26 2026, our water system received a total coliform-positive routine sample from the women's restroom tap inside the pro shop. While follow-up sampling was initiated, we did not collect the complete repeat sample set and the required groundwater source sample within the regulatory 24-hour timeframe. As a result, the State Water Resources Control Board cited the system for monitoring violations.
Although total coliform bacteria were detected in several samples, no E. coli bacteria were detected. Total coliforms are generally used as an indicator that additional investigation is needed and do not necessarily indicate that the water is unsafe to drink.
To address this issue, Coyote Valley Sporting Clays is working with the State Water Resources Control Board to complete all required corrective actions. Additional monthly bacteriological sampling is being conducted throughout the water system and from Well 01, our groundwater source. We are also completing a Level 1 Assessment to identify any potential sanitary defects or operational issues that may have contributed to the positive coliform results. Any deficiencies identified will be corrected promptly.
In addition, we are updating our bacteriological sampling procedures, sampling schedule, and monitoring plan to ensure all required routine, repeat, and source-water samples are collected within regulatory timeframes in the future. We will continue to monitor the water system closely and provide all required results and reports to the State Water Resources Control Board.
